Cambodia is an agricultural country with the majority of its people being farmers. The country is located on the most suitable land for rice cultivating because the land is plain and nourished with water.
The agriculture sector was once at the lowest point due to difficult times caused by war and conflicts. Rice productivity per an area unit was also one of the lowest in the region. Rice millings were not up to the international standard.
All of these were closely monitored by “Mr. Chieu Hieng” (founder of “Angkor Kasekam Roongroeung Co., Ltd.) who has been in the rice industry for more than 30 years. He believed that the country was in need of fast development and agriculture is one of the most important sectors for the country. So, he spent up to 2 years conducting a full scale research in various provinces of planting fragrant rice breed development.
When adequate data were gathered and carefully analyzed, “Mr. Chieu Hieng” concluded that the heart of fragrant rice cultivation and production are in these key provinces: Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampot and Takeo. They all have suitable weather, geography and soil for cultivating the fragrant rice breed “Neang Malis” which is fragrant, tender, with sweet tast and in world’s demand.
Therefore, Mr. Chieu Hieng decided to purchase the land on the Road No. 4, Angsnoul district, Kandal province and established a rice mill factory under the name “Angkor Kasekam Roongreoung Co., Ltd.” and started to operate on January 2000. The company has expanded under the management of its founder into the largest fragrant rice producer in Cambodia. At present, Angkor Kasekam Roongroeung Co., Ltd. is the owner of “Angkor Rice” trademark.
